Marianne Franke-Griksch, a current German educator, naturopath, and therapist developed a Systemic Pedagogy by applying her experience and learning of family therapy and family constellations to her classroom teaching experiences in school. Marianne found that when she integrated student's parents as an 'invisible presence' in the classroom, that her students experienced more ease between their home and school, and success in learning.
Systemic pedagogy is looking at the method and practice of teaching with a systems perspective. Marianne Franke-Griksch wrote her well received book called, 'You're One of Us' published in 2003, where she explains how systemic ideas learned form the teachings of Bert Hellinger and the power of family loyalties, enabled her a new and effective sharing learning/teaching and encourages greater cooperation between students, parents and teachers.
In occupational therapy, a person is seen as interacting within their environment and with what they do or how we be in our world. Occupational, nature and family therapy all have a systemic lens. Thich That Hanh used the phrase interbeing for this phenomenon of how we are all One, effecting and affecting one another. Jesus also is recorded as saying, whatever you did for the least brothers/sisters of mine, you did for me. Instead of seeing tow different systems, a child may benefit from a greater, sensitive awareness of a child within their family system interacting with a teacher and within a school and classroom. Bringing an understanding and perspective of a child's unique expression and an awareness for our roles as educarers may allows for an ease of movement between the systems for the child. Three systemic constellation principles of belonging, order and balance can help us to support children with dignity and to contribute to their lives alongside one another.
Seeing a child from with a systems pedagogy can help you provide an environment where a child can; feel safe; seen; heard; co and self-regulate their emotions and be ready to learn.
