In a family system everyone belongs and has their place in the system. This may seem natural or radical depending on your circumstances. However, for harmony, balance and health, a healthy system is one in which each person is seen, valued and heard for their unique contribution even when far apart, estranged or living close together. This doesn't mean that everyone will get along, nor will everyone understand each other and sometimes things don't work out as we would like. To open our hearts is to open to the pain and suffering, difficulties, as well as to the joys and happiness of family. It is part of our life journey together and individually. Bert Hellinger, founder of family/systemic constellation work as we know it today, says, 'To open our hearts is to live a life in humility and love, a love which is as deep as the ocean.'
